The ruling Shiromani Akali Dal today demanded that Punjab be paid royalty on river waters being used by other states, like Rajasthan.

Party's Core Committee on Political Affairs (CCPA) in a resolution said this was in conformity with nationally and internationally accepted riparian principles according to which only a state through which rivers flow have a right on their waters.

The resolution said the practice of royalty by non-riparian states is an accepted practice and even Rajasthan and erstwhile princely states of Nabha had been paying royalty to Punjab before Independence for the use of waters of its rivers.

Sutlej and Beas are the major rivers, water of which are being used by Rajasthan and Haryana.

The meeting also appealed to the Centre for enacting the Anand Marriage Act for the Sikhs along the lines of similar legislations for other religions, a party spokesman said.

In another resolution, the Centre was asked to review the Black Lists of Sikhs facing various charges and delete the names of those against whom no serious case can be made out.
