Senior advocate Ram Jetmalani appeared for Bhusan in case

The Supreme Court today decided to go ahead with the contempt proceedings against advocate Prashant Bhushan following his refusal to apologise for allegedly casting aspersions on Chief Justice S H Kapadia after some exchanges whether it would open a 'Pandoras box'.

The court was also dissatisfied with the explanation given by Bhushan in this regard. At its last hearing, the court had asked Bhushan to apologise for dropping the contempt proceedings against him.

Bhushan contended he did not owe any further explanation as his remarks on CJI was misconstrued by some people as imputation of financial corruption.

"On the issue of maintainability, we have held it against you. So you can go ahead on merit," a bench headed by Justice Altamas Kabir told Bhushan.

Senior advocate Ram Jethmalani appearing for the Bhushan submitted that the proceeding, if allowed, would open a Pandora's box.
