100 TB patients on roll DOTS treatment in Delhi were given blankets, towels, socks and some food items by the Gulabi Bagh chest clinic’s Staff Welfare Association here on Friday.

Mayor Prithvi Raj Sawhney inaugurated the function which was organised to spread awareness about TB. TB patients, medical officers and healthcare workers from MCD and Delhi government, NGOs and ASHA workers attended the programme.

MCD public health committee chairman V K Monga said that TB is prevalent worldwide and that smoking is one of the leading causes of TB whether it is in active or passive form.

Sawhney urged the TB patients to complete the DOTS treatment and to abstain from smoking.  State TB officer, Dr. R P Vashist said that the death rate has come down from 40percent to five percent because of effective DOTS.

There are 250 TB cases per lakh population in Delhi. Delhi has approximately 600 DOT centres.
