Info watchdog asks PMO to get LS and RS approval for ministers' assets disclosure

GN Bureau | June 8, 2010

The central information commission (CIC) has asked the prime minister’s office (PMO) to faciltate the declaration of the assets of the union ministers after getting a go- ahead from both houses of parliament.

The CIC said this on Monday while hearing the right to information plea filed by Delhi resident Subhash Chandra Aggarwal.

In an earlier decision, the commission had ruled that Aggarwal be given the information he had sought including the details of assets and income of all the union ministers.

However, in the absence of clarity over the appropriate authority which would provide the information, the case file kept on shuttling between the PMO and the cabinet secretariat.

During the hearing, the Lok Sabha secretariat said that since the information about the ministers’ assets was held by the PMO, the permission of Lok Sabha speaker was not needed to declare the same.
