State instructs district administraions not to grant NOCs for sale of agricultural lands

Tamil Nadu government has instructed district administrations not to grant no-objection certificate (NOC) for sale of agricultural lands for the purpose of converting them into housing plots or industrial sites, state Agriculture Minister Veerapandi S Arumugam said today.

Strict instructions had been given to all district administrations not to give NOC for sale of farm land for such purposes since it resulted in reduction in agricultural production, he said.

Arumugam said under the Kalaignar's housing scheme, 73,000 huts had been identifie, in Salem district. So far, 600 huts had been coverted into concreate houses at a cost of Rs.93 crores.

Replying to a question, he said free power supply to farmers would be continued.
