UPPCL seeks intervention of power ministry

Maintenance work on five units of 200MW capacity each at the Obra 'B' power plant yet to be completed by BHEL

GN Bureau | September 14, 2013

Siphoning off the blame to the central government for the long power cuts in UP-NCR, Uttar Pradesh power corporation (UPPCL) has requested the intervention of the power ministry.

According to a news report published in Times of India, UPPCL has asked the ministry to ensure completion of pending work on a priority basis.

UPPCL is facing a shortage of 800MW ostensibly as Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has not completed repair and maintenance work at the Obra power station, entrusted to it almost eight years ago.

Corporation officials said that UPPCL had given maintenance work on five units of 200MW capacity each at the Obra 'B' power plant to BHEL in 2006. The PSU is yet to finish the work which was to be completed by 2009.

Scheduled outages are currently in place across the state due to non-availability of adequate power, said officials. At least four scheduled outages have been imposed in the last 48 hours in Noida alone.
