Will not join DMK-led alliance: CPI(M)

Karunanidhi had earlier expressed interest in an alliance with the Left

PTI | March 7, 2011

The CPI(M) today ruled out the possibility of joining the DMK-led alliance for the April 13 Tamil Nadu assembly elections even if there was a split in the DMK-Congress combine.

"There is no question of joining the DMK-led alliance. Even if the DMK does not go along with the Congress, there is no question of us joining them", CPI (M) state unit secretary G Ramakrishnan told PTI.

Ramakrishnan said his party was against the "neo-liberal and anti-people" policies of the Congress-led central government as well as the DMK government in Tamil Nadu and therefore, they would not align with the DMK.

His comments come a day after DMK president M Karunanidhi had said there were chances of the Left parties joining the DMK-led alliance.

Ramakrishnan said the seat sharing modalities with opposition AIADMK were being worked out but declined to elaborate.

DMK on March 5 announced it was pulling out of the union cabinet and would provide issue-based support to the UPA government in the Centre following the breakdown in seat sharing talks between Congress and DMK.
