Urban Jana Seva Centres launched in Orissa

PTI | March 31, 2010

People in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack in Orissa have got single window online services at 'e-seva' counters to make payment of different utility bills and access other services of the urban bodies.

The urban Jana Seva Centres (e-seva) in these cities, launched yesterday, would provide single window facilities for a host of services like registration and issuance of birth and death certificates and payment of water and holding taxes, official sources said today.

Payment of electricity and telephone bills and several other services would be made available gradually, they said adding the 'e-seva' services would be provided under public- private partnership (PPP) mode.

Functioning of the services would be supervised and monitored by the 'e-seva society' formed under the department of the Housing and Urban Development.

Three centres each have been opened in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack and there are plans to set up more centres in the two cities in future, a senior official said adding these facilities would soon be extended to other places of the state in a phased manner.

It is also proposed to provide business-to-citizen services like mobile top-up, train ticket booking and payment of insurance premium with the help of e-seva centres in near future, he said.
