New twist to the timeless tale

Romeo and Juliet may not have been a tragic play had both of them been class 12 pass outs aspiring to take admission in Delhi University this year.

So what if Juliet studied all year round to make it to the first list of Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) but couldn’t through because of having a science background. And so what if Romeo did not study all year round because he was busy playing cricket.

Despite Juliet scoring so well and Romeo not scoring that well, they can both get what they want, admission in the same course in the same college.

Romeo and Juliet can apply under the extra-curricular activities (ECA) quota where certificates in activities like fine arts, dance, dramatics, debates, quiz, puzzle, music are taken into consideration. Students are asked to perform, they are judged and then selected. So our winsome duo can do the Shakespearean play under the dramatics society or just a beautiful ballet together and make an entry in the dance society. Because Juliet will make it any course in most of the colleges, to match her excellence Romeo can also apply under the sports quota which reserves seats for basketball, cricket, tennis, shooting, table tennis, swimming and much more. So our hero can make all his cricket certificates count for him to get a seat.

The ECA and sports quota will help Romeo procure a seat in whichever course he opts for. And if he is extraordinarily good, which he obviously has to be to be close to Juliet, he can even be considered in Hindu for Economics (Honours) or Sri Venkateswara for Chemistry (Honours) where no second list is brought out.

Since this quota covers five percent in every course in every college, Juliet’s dream college SRCC will not take Romeo away from her because of not doing as well in studies. They can together apply under the ECA quota and study BCom (Honours) and live happily ever after.
